THE self-styled Director-General of the non-existent Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC), Adeniyi Adeyemi, has been arrested by security operatives hours after the Federal High Court in Abuja issued a bench warrant for his arrest.
News Point Nigeria reports that Adeyemi was allegedly apprehended at his hideout in Osun State and is expected to be moved to the Force Headquarters in Abuja later on Tuesday.
Details surrounding the operation remained sketchy as of press time, but his arrest came only hours after Justice Mohammed Umar ordered that he be taken into custody for repeatedly failing to appear before the court for his arraignment.
Earlier on Tuesday, Adeyemi’s counsel, Genesis Francis, informed the court that he had been unable to persuade his client to honour the court summons because of concerns raised by the defendant.
According to the lawyer, Adeyemi had, in an open letter addressed to President Bola Tinubu, expressed fears for his safety, claiming that the matter before the court had attracted national attention and generated widespread public debate.
Reacting to the development, prosecuting counsel Wisdom Madaki urged the court to issue a warrant for the defendant’s arrest, arguing that the case had already been adjourned five times for arraignment at Adeyemi’s instance.
Madaki cited Section 394 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act and maintained that the persistent failure of the defendant to appear in court justified the issuance of a bench warrant.
In a brief ruling, Justice Umar noted that the charges against Adeyemi were filed on November 27, 2025, while proceedings in the matter commenced on December 4, 2025.
The judge observed that the defendant had appeared in court only once since the commencement of the case and had subsequently failed to attend four adjourned sittings.
Consequently, Justice Umar ordered his arrest and adjourned the matter until September 30 for further proceedings.
TVC News Online reports that Adeyemi is facing an eight-count charge bordering on felony and forgery.
Among the allegations against him is the purported forgery of an appointment letter allegedly issued by President Bola Tinubu and said to have been signed by the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila.
The Federal Government also accused Adeyemi of forging presidential letter-headed documents dated March 8, 2024, and falsely presenting himself as the Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council.
He is further accused of forging a request for office accommodation purportedly issued from the State House.
