NIGERIA’s D’Tigress will play Cameroon in the quarter-final of the 2025 Afrobasket in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
Cameroon beat Angola 85-64 on Wednesday to set up the last eight tie with the defending champions.
Nigeria, on the other hand, won two of their matches against Rwanda and Mozambique to seal a quarter-final berth.
The D’Tigress are targeting a fifth consecutive Afrobasket title, a feat that would make them the first team to get such a record in the competition.
Cameroon defeated the Nigerians in the 2015 semi-final of the competition.
But the West Africans have since that loss gone unbeaten, winning four Afrobasket crowns on the bounce.
Rena Wakama’s side will be aiming to take a step further in their quest for a fifth consecutive continental title when both sides meet at the Palais Des Sports de Treichville tonight.
At the Paris Olympics, D’Tigress defeated both Australia and Canada in the group stage to become the first African team to reach the quarter-final of the game.
However, they bowed gallantly to the US in the last eight.
Despite the defeat, Nigeria’s gaffer Wakama was named the Best Women’s Basketball Coach in the competition.
In the last edition, which Nigeria won in 2023, Wakama made history as the first female coach to win the Women’s Afrobasket competition, weeks after she was appointed to lead the side.
