PRESIDENT of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has returned to the country after a short vacation in London, dismissing widespread rumours that he had been hospitalised in the United Kingdom.
Akpabio, who arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, in the early hours of Monday at about 4:00am, was received at the presidential wing by a crowd of senators, aides, associates, and supporters who trooped out to welcome him back.
The Senate President had earlier participated in the Sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament, which took place in Geneva, Switzerland, between July 29 and 31, 2025, before proceeding to London for a brief rest.
Speaking with journalists on arrival, Akpabio described reports of his alleged critical illness and hospitalisation as baseless.
“There’s nothing like that. I’m fit as a fiddle. I only stopped over in London for a short vacation,” Akpabio declared.
He assured Nigerians that the Senate under his leadership would resume stronger, with more robust parliamentary engagements targeted at addressing national issues and improving governance.
The Senate President’s clarification comes after weeks of speculation in some quarters regarding his health status.
Akpabio’s return is expected to reinvigorate the activities of the National Assembly as lawmakers prepare to reconvene after their recess.
