FORMER Vice President Atiku Abubakar has held a private, closed-door meeting with Senator Abdulaziz Yari, a former governor of Zamfara State and current senator representing Zamfara West, in Abuja.
Credible sources confirmed to News Point Nigeria that the meeting took place at Atiku’s residence in the Federal Capital Territory. The engagement was held away from public view, with no access granted to journalists.
Neither Atiku nor Yari addressed the media after the meeting, and no official statement was issued regarding the purpose or outcome of the talks as of the time of filing this report.
Despite the silence, the development has triggered intense political speculation, particularly as discussions around alliances, defections, and strategic realignments continue to gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Atiku, who was the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 election, has in recent months aligned with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as part of a broader opposition coalition aimed at challenging the dominance of the ruling party.
The former vice president has consistently signalled his intention to remain politically active and has not ruled out another presidential bid.
Senator Yari, on the other hand, is a prominent figure within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The former Zamfara governor contested the presidency of the Senate following the inauguration of the 10th National Assembly, but lost to Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
Although the exact agenda of the Abuja meeting could not be independently verified, sources within the ADC disclosed that political consultations have intensified nationwide, making high-level engagements between influential figures increasingly common.
A party source, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to lack of authorisation to comment publicly, said political actors across party lines were already positioning themselves for the next election cycle.
“This is a political era, and alignments and realignments are happening across the country,” the source said. “While no one has officially confirmed that this meeting was political, at this point, nothing can be ruled out.”
