BUK VC Mourns Prof Ibrahim Umar

THE Vice Chancellor of the Bayero University, Kano, Prof Sagir Adamu Abbas, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of a former Vice Chancellor, Prof Ibrahim H. Umar, who died on Monday.

He described the late Prof. I. H. Umar as humble, simple and a complete gentleman who served the university and his motherland deligently .

In a condolence message issued by the Deputy Registrar, Public Affairs, Lamara Garba and made available to News Point Nigeria, Wednesday, Prof Abbas said Nigeria had, indeed, lost another rare gem, whose contributions to national growth were enormous.

“He was an inspirational leader with the commitment and passion for national development and growth,” the VC said.

He commiserated with members of his immediate family and members of the University community. He  prayed Allah to grant him Aljannatul Firdaus and the family to bear the irreparable loss.

During his tenure, the late Prof. I. H. Umar handled the second phase of the development of the new campus of the University.

The late Prof. Umar, who was the third Vice Chancellor of BUK, took over from Prof. JOC Ezeilo in 1979. During his tenure, he completed most of the buildings in the new campus, which included the administrative and academic buildings, students hostels, junior and senior staff quarters, access roads, among others.

He completed his tenure in 1986.

Prof. I. H Umar was so kind and committed to the development of the University in particular and the education sector in general.

He was a very humble, simple and God fearing personality.

The Vice Chancellor prayed Allah to grant Prof. Umar aljannatul firdaus.

Late Prof Umar was born on 20th May, 1941. He was survived by one wife and four children.
