THE Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has clarified that the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi Nandap, is not under investigation over alleged visa fraud involving some officers of the service.
News Point Nigeria reports that the anti-graft agency made the clarification in a statement issued on Monday by its spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, dismissing media reports suggesting that Nandap was being investigated as false.
The EFCC said while it is currently prosecuting some immigration officers over alleged visa racketeering, the NIS Comptroller-General has no connection with the cases.
“The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, is aware of reports in the media about alleged visa racketeering involving some officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, especially subtle insinuations about assumed investigation of the Comptroller General of the Immigration Service, Kemi Nandap,” the statement read.
“The Commission wishes to state unequivocally that it has no case with the Immigration CG.”
Oyewale added that investigations into alleged fraudulent practices within the immigration service are still ongoing, with the possibility that additional officers may be arraigned in the near future.
“There are subsisting cases of alleged visa fraud against some immigration officers at the Federal High Court. Further investigations are ongoing with the possibility that more NIS officers could be arraigned for alleged fraudulent practices in the near future,” he said.
He stressed that the Immigration Comptroller-General was not connected to the ongoing investigations.
“However, the Immigration CG is not remotely connected to these investigations,” Oyewale stated.
The commission urged media organisations to always seek clarification from relevant authorities before publishing reports concerning its activities to avoid spreading inaccurate information.
