Gunmen Kidnap Anambra Youths Commissioner, Wife En Route Abuja

ANAMBRA State Commissioner for Youths Development, Patrick Aghamba, and his wife have been kidnapped.

Sources said an aide of the commissioner, whose name was given as Kpajie ABK Offiah, an Onitsha youth and a stalwart of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), who was travelling with them, was shot dead by the kidnappers.

According to reports, they were on their way to Abuja for the wedding of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s daughter taking place on Saturday, August 17th, when they were kidnapped at the Kogi axis of the route.

Confirming the incident, the Press Secretary to Governor Soludo, Christian Aburime, said the government was yet to find out the exact location where the incident happened as Ubiaja, Edo State, was mentioned as well as Kogi State.

Also confirming the incident on the telephone, a top government source said the incident happened at a yet-to-be-confirmed location in Edo State.

The source said, “Yes, we are aware the incident happened. The state government will react to the development soon. Sources said the commissioner was on his way to Abuja to attend a function.

“No information yet concerning the situation, as no one has reached out to any of the family members or the state government yet, until he is released we will know exactly what happened.”

On why the commissioner did not go by flight, the source could not give further details.

Meanwhile, the state police spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the command heard about the information and escalated the incident to other state commands for possible action as the incident did not happen in Anambra.
