TRAGEDY struck in Kano on Thursday when a 30-year-old man, identified as Mutawakilu Ibrahim, allegedly stabbed his aged grandparents to death following a violent dispute over food.
News Point Nigeria reports that the incident, which occurred at Kofar Dawanau Quarters around 9:30 a.m. on September 25, 2025, has left the community in shock and mourning.
According to a statement released by the Kano State Police Command, the victims, 75-year-old Muhammad Dansokoto and 65-year-old Hadiza Tasidi were attacked in their home during what police described as a “food-related disagreement.”
The command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, said the tragic case was reported to the Dala Divisional Police Headquarters by a concerned resident who witnessed the aftermath of the altercation.
“During the altercation, the suspect allegedly used a knife to stab both victims in various parts of their bodies, causing severe injuries.
The elderly couple was immediately rushed to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, Kano, where medical personnel confirmed their deaths,” Kiyawa said.
Residents of the Kofar Dawanau community described the killings as “unimaginable” and “heartbreaking.”
Eyewitnesses told reporters that the couple were well-respected in the area and had lived peacefully for decades.
“They were kind, humble, and loved by everyone. No one ever imagined they would die this way, especially at the hands of their grandson,” one neighbour said.
The police confirmed that Ibrahim has been arrested and taken into custody for further investigation.
The command assured the public that justice will be served, stressing that the case will be handled with urgency given the gravity of the crime.
“The Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Usaini Gumel, has ordered a discreet investigation into the case. The suspect will be charged to court after completion of investigations,” Kiyawa added.
