PRESIDENT Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Dr Bernard Mohammed Doro from Plateau State as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, forwarding his name to the Senate for confirmation.
The development was contained in an official communication from the Presidency on Tuesday, signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy sent to News Point Nigeria.
According to the statement, Dr Doro’s nomination comes in the wake of Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda’s election as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in July. Yilwatda had previously served as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction before assuming his new political role.
The nomination, if confirmed, marks Dr Doro’s first ministerial appointment and is expected to strengthen the Tinubu administration’s reform agenda, especially in areas of human capital development, health systems, and social welfare.
Born on January 23, 1969, in Kwall, Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State, Dr Bernard Mohammed Doro brings to the table over two decades of multidisciplinary expertise spanning clinical practice, pharmaceutical management, strategic leadership, and community development in both Nigeria and the United Kingdom.
A distinguished scholar and professional, Dr Doro holds degrees in Pharmacy and Law, an MBA focused on IT-driven business strategy, and a Master’s degree in Advanced Clinical Practice.
He is also an Independent Prescriber and Advanced Clinical Practitioner with extensive frontline experience within the UK’s National Health Service (NHS), where he has worked across urgent care units, walk-in centres, general practice, and hospital settings.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Dr Doro has been deeply involved in youth mentorship, community health advocacy, and social impact initiatives, both within the Nigerian diaspora and at the grassroots level in Plateau State.
His nomination, observers say, reflects President Tinubu’s continued effort to integrate technocrats and internationally experienced professionals into governance, aligning with his Renewed Hope Agenda to enhance service delivery and policy execution.
The Senate is expected to screen and confirm the nominee in the coming days. If approved, Dr Doro will join the Federal Executive Council to oversee a portfolio that will be announced subsequently by the Presidency.
His appointment, once confirmed, will also restore Plateau State’s representation in the Federal Cabinet, which became vacant following Prof. Yilwatda’s transition to party leadership.
