THE Kano State Police Command has arrested and detained popular TikTok personality, Fati Cele, following the death of her boyfriend, Isma’il Makaye, at her residence in Kano.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna, confirmed the development on Saturday, saying the social media personality is currently in police custody while investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
News Point Nigeria reports that Haruna, who spoke via a WhatsApp message, confirmed the detention but declined to provide additional details, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation.
“Yes, it’s true, the TikToker is currently being detained over the death of her boyfriend, Isma’il Makaye,” the police spokesperson said.
Fati Cele, a native of Borno State, resides in a rented apartment in the Danbare area of Kano and has built a significant following on TikTok, where she has more than 32,000 followers.
A source close to the deceased, who spoke on condition of anonymity, alleged that the incident began when the TikTok personality raised an alarm from her residence, claiming there was a fire.
According to the source, Makaye was subsequently rushed to Nassarawa Hospital for medical treatment but later died.
It was further gathered that officers attached to the Dorayi Babba Police Division later took Fati Cele into custody as part of ongoing efforts to determine the circumstances that led to the incident and Makaye’s death.
The deceased, identified as a cosmetics trader, was said to have lived in the Hotoro Tishama area of Kano before his death.
Family associates disclosed that Makaye was buried at Unguwa Uku Yan Awaki after his remains were released to relatives for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
Police authorities have yet to disclose the exact cause of death, while investigations into the matter remain ongoing.
