MANCHESTER United have reportedly reignited their pursuit of Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen following the Napoli star’s decision to reject a mega-money move to Saudi Arabia.
Osimhen, 26, turned down a staggering €40 million per year offer from Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal, despite the club agreeing to a €75 million transfer fee with Napoli.
Al-Hilal had initially offered €30 million annually before raising the proposal to €40 million in a final attempt to secure his signature.
The Super Eagles striker’s rejection of the Saudi deal has now reopened the door for European clubs, with Manchester United among those closely monitoring the situation.
United, who recently signed Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha from Wolves, remain keen on adding Osimhen to bolster their attacking options under new manager Rubem Amorim.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed both Manchester United and Chelsea maintain interest in Osimhen, though his current salary demands remain a potential stumbling block.
“At the moment, I’m not aware of any change in his salary requests, so the situation is the same,” Romano said as quoted by GIVEMESPORT, suggesting that Osimhen has yet to lower his expectations despite the Saudi offer being turned down.
According to ESPN, Osimhen could demand wages in the region of £360,000 per week to make a move to the Premier League, a figure that may still prove prohibitive even for top clubs like United and Chelsea.
However, with the Saudi option off the table, United may now have a clearer runway to negotiate a deal, particularly if Osimhen and his representatives are open to adjusting their wage expectations in favour of competing at the highest level in Europe.
