THE Air Component of Operation Fansan Yamma (OPFY) has successfully carried out a precision airstrike on a gathering of terrorists who had assembled at the foot of Asola Hills in Yankuzo Ward, Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State, to attend a wedding.
According to a statement by OPFY’s media officer, Devid Adewusi made available to News Point Nigeria, the airstrike was executed following credible intelligence reports indicating that terrorists from Faskari and Kankara (Katsina State) and various locations in Zamfara were present at the location.
“Locals and other reliable sources have confirmed that no fewer than 30 terrorists were neutralized during the air interdiction by the Air Component of OPFY and the follow-up operations by ground troops,” the statement said.
Following the air assault, troops from 1 Brigade under Sector 2 OPFY engaged in a follow-up ground operation. While heading toward Yankuzo village, they successfully fought through an ambush laid by fleeing terrorists.
In addition to the dozens of terrorists killed, several others sustained serious injuries and were reportedly evacuated to Yankuzo village for medical attention by their fleeing comrades.
The military also confirmed that four known terrorist collaborators from Kunchin Kalgo village in Tsafe LGA were critically wounded.
The dual operations have been hailed as a major victory, bringing relief to terror-weary residents of Yankuzo, Tsafe, and nearby communities, who have been under constant threats and harassment from terrorist groups.
The OPFY reiterated its commitment to restoring peace and security across Zamfara and the entire North West zone.
