AS part of its efforts to fight the global cancer epidemic, 3 Brigade’s Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives (NAOWA) Kano Chapter in collaboration with Save A Life Awareness And Cancer Support Network (SALCASUN) held a special World Cancer Awareness and Medical Outreach sensitization exercise at the headquarters of the 3 Brigade Army, Bukavu Barracks, Saturday.
Speaking during the event, the Zonal Coordinator, Mrs Adebimpe Are stated that the Cancer Awareness and Medical Outreach is a medium used by 3 Brigade NAOWA Chapter to interact with the barracks community to teach them timely check of their health and also to encourage them to unite together in the fight against the global cancer epidemic.
According to Mrs Are, like the theme of this year’s Cancer Day stated, “Be Aware, Be Educated, Get Screened”, the exercise is also geared towards informing and encouraging people on its prevention, early detection and treatment.
She further stated that this year’s outreach is an avenue for the barracks community to interact with medical practitioners and be enlightened on their general health condition.
She then thanked the National President, Mrs Salamatu F Yahaya who gave the 3 Brigade NAOWA Chapter the opportunity to conduct the awareness programme.
In her closing remarks, Mrs Are charged the good people of Bukavu Barracks community to prioritize their health because health is wealth.
She also urged the women to ensure that the home front is at peace all the time and remain good example to their wards.
The Programme featured lectures on Breast Cancer/Awareness delivered by Dr Maryam Nasiru, Cervical Cancer, Risk factors and Treatment delivered by Dr Aisha Saidu as well as Healthy Living delivered by Dr Rahila Mukhtar.
In attendance were the President Medical Women Association, Kano Dr Rahila Mukhtar, SALCASUN Coordinator, Dr Aisha Saidu, members of NASWA amongst others.
