THE All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa State has been thrown into mourning following the death of its Deputy Chairman, Hon. Aliyu Yakubu Barde.
Barde reportedly passed away on Tuesday in Lafia after a brief illness, family sources confirmed to News Point Nigeria.
His remains will be laid to rest later today in his hometown of Wamba, in accordance with Islamic rites.
Confirming the sad development to newsmen, the State Secretary of the APC, Chief Otaru Douglas, described Barde’s death as a “huge and painful loss” not just to the ruling party but to the entire state.
“This is indeed a very difficult moment for the APC family in Nasarawa State. Hon. Barde was a loyal party man, a bridge-builder, and a committed grassroots mobilizer. His demise has created a big vacuum that will be very hard to fill,” Douglas said.
Party members and supporters have been trooping to Barde’s Lafia residence to condole with his family, with many describing him as a humble and principled politician who worked tirelessly for the unity and growth of the APC in Nasarawa.
Before his emergence as the Deputy Chairman of the APC, Barde served as the Interim Management Committee (IMC) Chairman of Wamba Local Government Area under the administration of former Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura.
He was widely respected as a grassroots politician with a reputation for consensus-building and effective leadership. His political career was marked by his commitment to development initiatives within his local government area and beyond.
Across the state, political stakeholders have been expressing shock and sadness at the news of Barde’s passing.
