SUPER Eagles midfielder, Alex Iwobi, has carved his name into English Premier League history, becoming the Nigerian player with the highest number of appearances in the competition’s history.
News Point Nigeria Sports reports that Iwobi achieved this remarkable milestone on Saturday when he featured for Fulham in their hard-fought 1–0 home defeat to Arsenal at Craven Cottage.
The match marked Iwobi’s 299th Premier League appearance, surpassing the previous record of 288 appearances held by Newcastle United legend, Shola Ameobi — a record that had stood unbroken for 11 years.
Though Fulham narrowly lost to Arsenal, the day was deeply significant for the 29-year-old midfielder, who reached the landmark against the same club where he began his professional career and made his Premier League debut.
According to Bold Sports, Iwobi’s appearance tally cuts across three top-flight clubs: Arsenal (149 games), Everton (140 games), and Fulham (85 games), including the milestone fixture against his former side.
Iwobi made his Premier League debut in 2015 for Arsenal under Arsène Wenger before joining Everton in 2019, where he established himself as a dependable midfielder.
His transfer to Fulham in 2023 further cemented his Premier League legacy, as he continues to display consistency, versatility, and professionalism at the top level of English football.
Beyond his club career, Iwobi has been a key figure for the Super Eagles of Nigeria, earning over 70 international caps and featuring in major tournaments such as the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the FIFA World Cup.
His latest achievement further reinforces his status as one of Nigeria’s most accomplished exports in European football, following in the footsteps of greats like Nwankwo Kanu, John Obi Mikel, Yakubu Aiyegbeni, and Shola Ameobi.
