OVER 20 people, including women and children, are feared killed, while several others remain missing following a deadly attack on Amper community in the BWI District of Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.
News Point Nigeria reports that the attack occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, marking the third attack recorded in Mangu within the past week. Local sources said one person was shot during the previous attack.
Confirming the latest incident, the Public Relations Officer of the Plateau State Police Command, Alfred Alabo, said the initial casualty figure received by the command was 18.
Alabo, however, said the number of casualties was believed to have risen to more than 20 as further details continued to emerge from the affected community.
He added that the Plateau State Commissioner of Police, Faniyan Ayodeji, and his team were on their way to the scene to assess the situation and obtain more details about the attack.
The latest attack has heightened fears and concerns among residents of the area, with many calling on the government and security agencies to urgently strengthen security and protect communities from further attacks.
The recurring violence in Mangu, residents fear, could worsen if decisive measures are not taken to halt the attacks and safeguard vulnerable communities.
