PDP Gears Up For Ibadan Convention, Compiles Delegates List Nationwide

THE Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has commenced the compilation of its delegates’ list ahead of its highly anticipated national convention slated for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State.

News Point Nigeria reports that the move marks a major step in the opposition party’s preparations for what many insiders describe as a “make-or-break” convention that will define the PDP’s direction ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking at a meeting of the National Convention Organising Committee Protocol Subcommittee in Abuja on Monday, Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, who chairs the main convention committee, reaffirmed the PDP’s unwavering commitment to transparency, fairness, and internal democracy.

“We are fully committed and will not leave any stone unturned. Our team is making sacrifices to ensure a successful convention and to position the PDP for victory,” Fintiri declared.

The governor, known for his organisational discipline, spoke passionately about his loyalty to the PDP, describing the party as a family that had shaped his political and personal journey.

“Apart from Islam, the PDP is the next institution that has given me everything I have achieved in life. I will forever remain grateful to this party,” he said.

He added that the forthcoming convention would reflect the will of the people, with no exclusion or manipulation in the delegate selection or aspirant screening process.

“We are not going to deny anybody the chance to contest. Everyone who has bought forms will be screened transparently. Go to the field and test your popularity. The names of delegates will also be released openly, just as we did with the subcommittee lists,” Fintiri assured.

According to him, the delegate compilation process is being handled with “meticulous attention to fairness and inclusiveness,” ensuring that the party’s internal democracy remains intact.

“It’s not a closed system; it’s open. True democracy allows competition, and those supported by the majority will emerge victorious,” he added.

The Adamawa governor also expressed optimism that the convention will re-energise the PDP, saying the renewed enthusiasm among members reflected growing faith in the party’s revival.

“Even our inaugural meetings weren’t as full as this. It shows life is returning to the PDP. People are regaining confidence in our collective mission. At the end of the day, we will provide responsible leadership to steer this party forward,” he said.

Describing the PDP as “the biggest and most enduring political party in sub-Saharan Africa,” Fintiri urged members to remain steadfast and committed to the ideals of unity, service, and sacrifice.

“Please, make sacrifices and don’t mind the noise. In the end, victory will be ours,” he concluded.

In his remarks, Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, who chairs the Protocol Subcommittee, commended the high level of mobilisation and commitment shown by members, noting that it signaled a new dawn for the PDP.

“Today’s meeting demonstrates that the PDP is very much alive and serious about this convention. Those who founded this party will not want to see it die in our time. We must keep the platform alive for the Nigerian people,” Mutfwang said.

He stressed the importance of his committee’s work in ensuring a seamless and well-organised convention in Ibadan, noting that proper protocol management was essential to the overall success of the event.

“If you see any well-organised event, it’s because protocol was well handled. Our job is not in Abuja—it’s in Ibadan. We must be there before the delegates arrive,” he added.
