THE Plateau State Police Command has arrested a key suspect believed to be the mastermind behind Tuesday’s deadly attack on Bimper village in the Kombun District of Mangu Local Government Area of the state.
News Point Nigeria reports that no fewer than 25 people were killed, while four others sustained injuries during the early morning attack, which is the third recorded in Mangu within the past week.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Alfred Alabo, confirmed the arrest to Channels Television, saying the suspect currently in police custody is believed to have masterminded the deadly attack.
Alabo said investigations into the incident were progressing, while security operatives had intensified efforts to track down other attackers who fled after the assault.
He added that a manhunt was ongoing for the fleeing suspects as police seek to unravel the full circumstances surrounding the attack and bring all those involved to justice.
The latest assault occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, further heightening tension in Mangu Local Government Area following a series of attacks recorded in the area in recent days.
It was the third attack in Mangu within the past week, according to available information, while local sources said one person was shot during the previous attack.
The latest killings have heightened fears and concerns among residents, who are now calling on the government and security agencies to strengthen security in the area and protect vulnerable communities from further attacks.
Residents are particularly worried about the recurring violence and have appealed for urgent measures to prevent another attack and restore lasting peace to the affected communities.
