A YET-TO-IDENTIFIED police officer with Mopol 8 Jos, Plateau State is reported to have allegedly shot a young man on Sunday, The PUNCH gathered.
The victim, identified as Nyommena Badapba, a resident at the Tudun Wada community was shot in his shoulder shortly after an argument with the policeman.
A resident of Tudun Wada community who witnessed the shooting confirmed the incident to News Point Nigeria in Jos on Sunday.
According to him, the police officer and the young man were engaged in a political argument on who will win the governorship election in the state.
The witness said, “The policeman was castigating the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Dr Nentawe Yilwatda.
“He said he will not win the election because he has nothing to offer the people of the state but Nyommena was trying to defend him.
“When the argument became heated, the young man was advised to end the conversation and he left for his house.”
According to the victim, the police officer who was armed trailed the victim from behind.
“Suddenly, the policeman targeted his head and opened fire but luckily ,the bullet hit the youngman at his shoulder.
“He is currently at the Bingham university teaching hospital in Jos where he was rushed to,” he added.
In a picture circulating online and obtained by our correspondent, the victim was seen lying down on a bed with bandages all over his shoulder and hand.
Many social media users who reacted to the pictures challenged the Plateau state police command to fish out the policeman responsible for shooting the young man.
However, the Spokesman for the Plateau state police command, Alabo Alfred, when contacted said he was yet to verify the incident.
