TROOPS of Operation SAFE HAVEN have arrested a suspected impersonator who allegedly posed as a personnel of the Nigerian Navy in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.
News Point Nigeria reports that the suspect, identified as Mohammed Auwal, was reportedly apprehended during a security operation carried out at Grovos Hotel in the Apata area of Jos following intelligence reports received by security operatives.
According to sources familiar with the operation, the suspect was arrested at about 2:56 p.m. on May 23 after troops acted on what was described as credible intelligence concerning his activities.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly claimed to be a serving naval officer, a development that reportedly raised security concerns among authorities and prompted further investigation.
Security personnel were also said to have recovered items linked to the suspect during the operation, including an identification card bearing the insignia of the Nigerian Navy.
As of the time of filing this report, Operation SAFE HAVEN had yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
Investigations, however, are ongoing to determine the authenticity of the suspect’s claims and whether other persons may be connected to the case.
The arrest has since generated reactions among residents in the area, with many calling for stricter measures against the impersonation of security personnel in Plateau State.
