THE Dangote Group has pledged full medical support and compensation for Mrs. Ruth Otabor, younger sister of Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner Josephina “Phyna” Otabor, following a public outcry and condemnation over a truck accident that left her severely injured.
Phyna had taken to Instagram on Wednesday to narrate the harrowing incident, which occurred near Auchi Polytechnic in Edo State.
She alleged that one of Dangote’s trucks crushed her sister, resulting in the amputation of one leg, severe injuries to the other, and head and hand wounds.
In a strongly worded post, the reality TV star accused the company of focusing on retrieving the truck’s plate number and sending a manager to the police station rather than visiting her sister in the hospital.
“Na money you get, you no be God. But my God is bigger… Enough is enough,” she wrote.
Following widespread criticism on social media, Dangote Group issued a statement on Thursday confirming that senior company officials, alongside its insurance team, visited the scene immediately after the accident, coordinated with law enforcement, and met the victim’s family at Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital.
The company said it was “ensuring full support” for Mrs. Otabor, including “comprehensive medical care and appropriate compensation” in line with its welfare policy.
A photo released alongside the statement showed company representatives meeting with Mrs. Otabor’s husband at the hospital.
“Our thoughts remain with Mrs. Ruth Otabor and her loved ones, and we wish her a full and speedy recovery,” the statement concluded.
The development has calmed some of the outrage online, although many Nigerians have continued to call for improved corporate responsibility and safer trucking practices to prevent similar tragedies.
