SUPER Eagles captain Ahmed Musa has been appointed as the general manager of Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side Kano Pillars.
The appointment was confirmed in a statement issued on Friday by the spokesperson to Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
According to the statement, Musa’s appointment follows a series of consultations with key football stakeholders as part of broader efforts to reposition the club ahead of the 2025/2026 NPFL season.
Musa, Nigeria’s most capped international with 111 appearances for the Super Eagles, returns to a club where he previously enjoyed success as a player.
His leadership and experience are expected to inject renewed energy into the team known as Sai Masu Gida, which finished eighth in the just-concluded NPFL season.
“The state government has approved the reconstitution of a new management board for Kano Pillars Football Club following the expiration of the outgoing board’s one-year tenure.
“This move is aimed at strengthening the team’s structure and improving performance in the upcoming season,” the statement reads.
Kano Pillars is currently without a substantive head coach following the resignation of Usman Abdallah, and Musa’s first task as GM may involve overseeing a crucial coaching appointment.
Musa’s leadership credentials are undisputed, including becoming the first Nigerian to score in two FIFA World Cups (2014 and 2018).
The news of Musa’s appointment has drawn widespread congratulations. Former presidential aide Bashir Ahmad wrote on X (formerly Twitter):
