THE Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has announced a $7.5 million title sponsorship deal with EuroMatch, a gambling company, in a major commercial boost for Nigeria’s top-flight football.
News Point Nigeria Sport reports that the three-year deal was announced on Wednesday, with the Nigeria top-flight football division to be renamed “EuroMatch NPFL” for the duration of the contract. The agreement is worth $2.5 million annually.
According to NPFL Chairman, Gbenga Elegbeleye, EuroMatch will invest $2.5 million annually in the league, with 60 per cent of the funds going directly to the 20 participating clubs to improve players’ wages and welfare.
The deal ends a prolonged period in which the NPFL has struggled to secure a conventional title sponsor. Globacom, the telecom company, was the league’s previous title sponsor, with that partnership ending in 2016. During the partnership, the competition was known as the Globacom Premier League.
For more than 10 years, the NPFL has struggled to attract a conventional title sponsor, making the new EuroMatch agreement a significant commercial development for the domestic league.
EuroMatch is a Polish company focused on the gaming industry. According to information cited about the company, EuroMatch has licensed gaming operations in Nigeria, Kenya and Mexico, with permits in four additional markets at the application stage.
Earlier in August, the NPFL had announced a partnership with Murphy Ben International (MBI), a digital content creation firm, to provide free YouTube streaming of matches to fans.
The latest sponsorship agreement comes amid wider efforts to strengthen the financial and commercial structure of the domestic league ahead of the 2026/27 season.
In June, the National Sports Commission (NSC) revealed that champions of the new NPFL season would receive a minimum prize money of N1 billion, up from the previous N200 million.
The NSC also introduced a N2 million salary cap for NPFL players, as part of measures aimed at improving the financial structure and competitiveness of the league.
The sponsorship deal, according to NPFL officials, is expected to provide additional resources for clubs, improve players’ welfare and increase the visibility and commercial appeal of Nigerian football.
