THE Sports Writer Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has set up an electoral committee ahead of its election preparations.

The election is expected to hold within the first quarter of the year, February 18, and has adopted its former Chairman and current SWAN Vice President Northwest Zone, Comrade Rilwanu Idris Malikawa Garu as its presidential candidate.

His tenure saw the revival of Kano state chapter of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria from its slumber. Comrade Malikawa was later elected as Vice President, North West Zone comprising seven states; Kano, Katsina, Jigawa Kaduna, Zamfara, Sokoto and Kebbi.

One of the roles he played during his tenure as the Chairman Kano Chapter was reviving the association to the envy of its Northwest zone counterparts.

It was during his time, that the publication of the annual calendar of SWAN was introduced, and so many other positive changes that projected the image of SWAN Kano chapter was achieved.

As long as we believe that the leadership of SWAN should shift to the North, as once stated by SWAN National President Honor Sirawo during the launch of SWAN Calendar in Kano, then Comrade Malikawa should be at the front, to enable him consolidate on his previous gains especially boosting sports activities at the grassroots.

Malikawa has played a significant role in getting more sports writers to enroll their names with SWAN. He has also encouraged and enlightened Kano Pillars Football team, Fans Club in his sports programs against hooliganism in sports, especially during Kano Pillars and other sports being hosted by Kano state and other neighboring states.

He is the promoter of local game in order to develop local sporting talents and activities.
