THE Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has said contrary to speculations in some section of the media, the arrest of 11 people at White Hotel, Chanchangi Local Government Area of Niger state was carried out by its operatives.
A report had earlier indicated that the 11 mem were abducted late in the night by gunmen who disguised as EFCC operatives.
However, Dele Oyewale, the spokesperson for EFCC in a statement issued to PM NEWS on Sunday said the 11 men were arrested by operatives of the anti-graft agency over suspicion of their involvement in internet fraud.
EFCC added that the suspects were arrested in broad daylight with two cars and 13 phones of different brands recovered from them.
The statement reads: “Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Kaduna Zonal Directorate, on Thursday, February 27, 2025 arrested 11 suspected internet fraudsters.
”They were arrested in broad daylight at White Hotel, Chanchangi Local Government Area in Niger state following credible intelligence about their suspected involvement in fraudulent internet activities.
“Items recovered from them include two vehicles and 13 phones of different brands.
“The Commission’s operatives carried out the arrest professionally with no motive or tinge of abduction.
“The suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.”
