PREPARATIONS have reached an advanced stage for the wedding ceremony of nine children of the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, who are set to get married on the same day in Abuja.
The unusual but grand event, which has generated widespread public interest, came to light following the circulation of an official wedding invitation card on social media.
The invitation, sighted by News Point Nigeria on Saturday, features the photograph of the minister and details of the multiple marriage ceremonies scheduled to take place at the Abuja Central Mosque.
According to the invitation, the weddings will be held on February 6, 2026, by 1:30 pm at the Central Mosque, Abuja, one of the country’s most prominent Islamic worship centres.
The nine children listed on the invitation are Ibrahim, Suraj, Safiya, Maryam, Aisha, Fahad, Muh’d, Nana Firdausi and Farida.
Confirming the development, the spokesperson of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State, Yusuf Idris, told this newspaper that the group of children comprises five sons and four daughters.
“By the grace of God, the ceremony will be conducted at the Abuja Central Mosque on February 6,” Idris said. “I also want to say that the minister’s children who are getting married are five sons and four daughters.”
Idris, who disclosed that he is a member of the wedding planning committee, assured that all necessary arrangements were being put in place to ensure a smooth and hitch-free ceremony.
“I am among the committee members for this great occasion, and as I speak to you now, arrangements have reached an advanced stage to ensure a smooth ceremony in Abuja next month,” he added.
The announcement has sparked widespread reactions across social media platforms, with many Nigerians expressing surprise at the scale of the ceremony, while others offered prayers and goodwill messages to the families involved.
Bello Matawalle, a former Governor of Zamfara State, currently serves as the Minister of State for Defence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
