THE Federal Government has confirmed steady progress on the Kaduna-Kano-Jigawa-Katsina-Maradi Railway Project, revealing that construction work has reached about 60 per cent completion across the project’s major corridors.
News Point Nigeria reports that the update was disclosed on Saturday by Ali Bukar, the Resident Engineer from the Federal Ministry of Transportation overseeing section two of the project, during an inspection visit by members of the Presidential Media Team to project sites in Jigawa State.
The Presidential Media Team, led by Sunday Dare, visited the site to assess the level of work completed on the strategic rail infrastructure project.
The inspection formed part of an ongoing tour of federal and state government projects across the North-West zone initiated by the Governor Hope Uzodimma-led Renewed Hope Ambassadors.
Speaking during the inspection, Engr. Bukar said the railway project is expected to be completed and delivered by December 2027.
According to him, construction activities along the Kano to Dutse axis have intensified significantly, with major engineering work currently concentrated on bridge construction across critical waterways and difficult terrains.
He explained that foundational works, including piling and substructure construction for several bridges, have already reached advanced stages, while installation of bridge superstructures is ongoing at different locations.
The engineer further disclosed that substantial milestones had already been recorded along the Kano-Jigawa section of the rail line, which stretches approximately 104 kilometres.
He added that major progress had also been achieved on the branch line connecting Kano to Dutse, with track laying, earthworks and structural components already in place along both alignments.
According to Bukar, the railway project is being fully funded under the Renewed Hope Infrastructure funding scheme of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
As part of the inspection exercise, the Presidential Media Team also visited several landmark projects executed by the Kano and Jigawa State Governments.
Among the projects inspected were the interchange flyover bridge at Tal-Udu in Gwale Local Government Area and the ongoing construction of a concrete waterline from Kapin Chiri Dam in Kano South Senatorial District aimed at boosting irrigation farming.
In Dutse, the capital of Jigawa State, the team also inspected the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Skills Acquisition Centre as well as tractors procured by the state government to enhance agricultural production.
The statement was signed by Abiodun Oladunjoye on behalf of the State House on May 3, 2026.
