AS political permutations ahead of the 2027 general elections continue to gather momentum in Kano State, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has been urged to field businessman and politician, Ibrahim Ali Amin Little, as its gubernatorial candidate.
News Point Nigeria reports that the call followed the reported emergence of Governor Abba Kabiru Yusuf as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as well as indications that the New Democratic Congress (NDC) led by former Kano governor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, may present either Comrade Abdussalam or Nasiru Gawuna for the race.
Speaking with journalists, a representative of the Kano business community and philanthropists, Alhaji Nasiru Hussain Agalawa, said the ADC needed a candidate who is business-oriented, politically experienced and equipped with a clear developmental vision capable of repositioning Kano State.
Agalawa spoke while reacting to the emergence of the Waziri Adamawa, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, as a presidential hopeful of the ADC.
According to him, members of the Kano business community have long desired the emergence of one of their own as governorship flag-bearer in the state, expressing confidence that the ADC would ultimately settle for Ibrahim Ali Amin Little as its candidate for the 2027 governorship election.
He maintained that Ibrahim Little possesses the political experience and grassroots appeal required to successfully contest and win the Kano governorship election.
Agalawa further claimed that if given the ADC ticket, Ibrahim Little would decisively defeat Governor Abba Kabiru Yusuf and any candidate eventually presented by Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso’s political camp in the 2027 contest.
“As journalists, you need to conduct opinion polls and surveys across Kano State to see the undisputed chances of the ADC winning with a landslide if Ibrahim Ali Amin Little emerges as the party’s gubernatorial candidate,” he stated.
The businessman also alleged that forces within the ruling APC at both national and state levels were working behind the scenes to prevent Ibrahim Little from clinching the ADC governorship ticket.
According to him, such efforts were allegedly being carried out through political surrogates aimed at weakening the ADC ahead of the elections.
“Right now, we are aware that the ruling APC, from the national to the state level, is doing everything possible to stop the ADC from fielding Ibrahim Ali Amin Little as its gubernatorial candidate using surrogates,” he alleged.
“However, we believe the ADC leadership is not losing sleep over the matter and will ultimately get it right by giving Little the ticket,” he added.
Agalawa further alleged that another aspirant within the ADC was allegedly being sponsored by the APC in a bid to secure the party’s governorship ticket and destabilise the opposition party in Kano.
“We suspect that the other aspirant is being financed by the APC to secure the ADC ticket in order to cripple the party in Kano and even undermine the ADC presidential candidate,” he claimed.
He, however, assured that members of the Kano business community and philanthropists were fully prepared to mobilise support for Ibrahim Ali Amin Little and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the ADC’s governorship and presidential candidates respectively in 2027.
According to him, their emergence would signal what he described as “a new dawn” in Nigeria’s democratic journey and governance.
