EFFORTS by stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress in Kaiama to produce a consensus candidate for the Baruten–Kaiama Federal Constituency House of Representatives ticket have collapsed, leaving all eight aspirants in the race ahead of the party’s primary election.
This was contained in a press statement signed by Kaiama APC Stakeholders and made available on Saturday under the title: “Consensus Talks Collapse As All Aspirants Remain In The Race For Baruten–Kaiama APC Ticket.”
According to the statement, the leadership of Kaiama APC stakeholders, elders, and concerned political leaders could not reach an agreement on a consensus arrangement despite extensive consultations aimed at preserving unity and political harmony within the party.
The statement explained that the conditions necessary to sustain the consensus arrangement eventually broke down following disagreements among the six aspirants who initially agreed to participate in the process.
It added that the disagreement emerged after one of the six aspirants involved in the talks reportedly decided to withdraw from the arrangement and proceed with his ambition independently.
“As a result, all eight candidates vying for the APC House of Representatives ticket for the Baruten–Kaiama Federal Constituency are now fully in the race for today’s election,” the statement said.
The stakeholders noted that all aspirants are now pursuing their ambitions through the democratic process provided by the party ahead of the APC primary election.
However, the statement also pointed to reports indicating that four aspirants may have been disqualified by the APC National Headquarters, a development that could narrow the contest to only four candidates.
According to the statement, the aspirants who may eventually participate in the primary election are Hon. Aliyu Umar Mande, Comrade Abubakar Musa Shamaki, Arc. Aliyu Muhammad Saiffudeen, and Malam Anas Adamu Galadima, popularly known as Zam-Zam.
The Kaiama Local Government chapter of the APC further urged party members across Kaiama and Baruten local government areas to remain calm, law-abiding, and committed to strengthening the party ahead of the forthcoming primary and general elections.
