DAYS after rescuing a professor of the Nasarawa State University, Keffi, operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) in Zamfara State have successfully rescued all four remaining kidnapped students of the Federal Polytechnic, Kaura Namoda.
News Point Nigeria reports that the DSS operatives, relying on intelligence, rescued the students, comprising four males and one female, on Wednesday without any ransom being paid.
It was gathered that one of the kidnappers was arrested during the operation, while the others reportedly did not survive the encounter.
The students were kidnapped on June 3 at their off-campus hostel in the Low-cost area of Kaura Namoda town after armed bandits stormed the building and abducted six of them.
Following the earlier release of two of the six students, security forces intensified an intelligence-led operation to secure the safe return of the remaining victims.
The operation, according to security sources, was carefully coordinated and resulted in the successful rescue of the students, bringing relief to their families, colleagues and the institution’s community.
The DSS said the latest breakthrough was achieved through sustained intelligence gathering and strategic intervention aimed at dismantling criminal networks operating in the state.
The rescue comes shortly after similar successful operations by security agencies targeting kidnappers and bandit groups across the North-West region.
Security authorities have continued to emphasise the importance of intelligence sharing and cooperation with local communities in tackling kidnapping and other criminal activities.
The safe return of the students marks another significant development in ongoing efforts to restore security and protect citizens in areas affected by banditry and related crimes.
