SOKOTO State Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has skipped the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Rally in Bauchi for a secret meeting with some APC governors and a later meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja, today.
News Point Nigeria exclusively gathered that, Tambuwal, the Director-General of the PDP Presidential Campaign Council is currently in a secret meeting with Chairman of APC Governors Forum and Kebbi State Governor, Atiku Bagudu and Ex-Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi at his Maitama residence.
A source in the Presidency told News Point Nigeria that, the scheduled Presidential Villa meeting was summoned by President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday after receiving a report about the court suit filled against the Federal Govt by APC Governors of Kaduna, Kogi and Zamfara states.
According to the source, immediately after the meeting, Tambuwal and Bagudu entered the same car and headed to the Villa while Fayemi joked: “I am a private citizen now. You two go and save us.”
The APC governors, our correspondent learnt, had threatened to go to court on the new naira issue when they met the president earlier in the week, but most of them changed their minds after the meeting, except for Gov ElRufai, Gov Matawalle and Gov Bello of Kogi.
“The President was very angry in his meeting with them and he is even angrier now after he asked for seven days to make a decision and yet the three APC governors went ahead to sue the federal government on the matter.
“This has clearly infuriated the president and inclusive in the suit is something he discussed with the governors privately,” the source revealed.
He added that, Governor Bagudu and Governor Tambuwal are in the Villa for their 12 noon scheduled meeting with President Buhari.
News Point Nigeria broke the news that, worried by the effects the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)’s naira redesign policy is having on the residents of their states, the governments of Kaduna, Kogi and Zamfara have dragged the Federal government before the Supreme Court, seeking a restraining order to stop the full implementation of the policy.
In a motion ex-parte filed on their behalf by their lawyer, AbdulHakeem Uthman Mustapha (SAN) obtained by News Point Nigeria, Monday morning, the three northern states are urging the apex court to grant them an interim injunction stopping the Federal Government either by itself or acting through the CBN, the commercial banks or its agents from carrying out its plan of ending the timeframe within which the now older versions of the 200, 500 and 1000 denominations of the Naira may no longer be legal tender on February 10, 2023.
The Plaintiffs in the suit are the three Attorneys-General and Commissioners of Justice of the three states, while the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), is the sole Respondent.
