FRANCO-BRITISH International University (FBIU), Kaduna, on Wednesday recorded a major milestone in its history as it held its maiden matriculation ceremony, formally admitting 362 students into the institution for the 2025/2026 academic session.
NEWS POINT NIGERIA reports that the historic event attracted parents, guardians, government officials, academics, invited guests and well-wishers from different parts of the country who gathered to witness the official induction of the students into the university community.
The ceremony marked the beginning of academic activities for the institution’s pioneer students and underscored the university’s commitment to expanding access to quality higher education in Nigeria.
The newly admitted students were matriculated into four academic schools comprising the School of Nursing Sciences, School of Health Sciences, School of Computing, and the School of Social and Management Sciences.
Addressing the matriculating students, the President of FBIU, Abdullahi Sabo Muhammad, congratulated them on securing admission into the institution and described the occasion as a significant milestone in both their academic journey and the development of the university.
He said the matriculation ceremony symbolised the beginning of a new chapter in their lives and urged them to remain focused on their studies while embracing the values of discipline, integrity and excellence.
According to him, success in the university environment requires dedication, hard work and a commitment to upholding the institution’s standards.
Founder of the MAAUN Group of Universities, Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, cautioned the students against drug abuse, immorality and other social vices, stressing that the university maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy on drug-related offences.
He urged the students to remain focused on their academic pursuits and avoid activities that could undermine their future ambitions.
Prof. Gwarzo noted that the institution was established to produce graduates equipped with the knowledge, skills and competencies required to contribute meaningfully to development in Nigeria and across the African continent.
He also revealed plans by the university to establish an Internationalisation Unit aimed at expanding access to scholarships, academic exchange programmes and other global learning opportunities for students.
According to him, the initiative is expected to strengthen the university’s international outlook and expose students to broader educational and cultural experiences.
In his goodwill message, the Chancellor of FBIU, Shehu Sani, urged the matriculating students to uphold discipline and good character throughout their academic journey.
He described both virtues as indispensable to academic excellence and essential for safeguarding the reputation of the institution.
The former senator encouraged the students to remain law-abiding, pursue their studies diligently and take full advantage of the opportunities available to them at the university.
Other dignitaries who spoke during the event included the President of MAAUN Nigeria, Mohammad Israr; the Registrar of MAAUN Niger and Nigeria, Shu’aibu Usman Tanko; and the representative of the Canadian University of Nigeria, Ahmed Maigari Ibrahim.
They encouraged the newly admitted students to take advantage of the numerous academic opportunities available at the institution and remain committed to achieving their educational goals.
The speakers also urged them to cultivate resilience, discipline and a strong work ethic as they progress through their academic programmes.
Also speaking at the ceremony, the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the Environmental Health Council of Nigeria, Baba Muhammad Yakubu, commended FBIU for offering programmes tailored to contemporary societal needs and aligned with international standards.
He noted that institutions of higher learning have a critical role to play in preparing graduates capable of addressing emerging challenges across different sectors.
Yakubu expressed confidence that the university’s academic programmes would contribute significantly to human capital development and national progress.
The highlight of the ceremony was the administration of the matriculation oath by the Vice President (Administration) of FBIU, who presided over the event.
The oath formally admitted the 362 students into the university community, signifying their official acceptance of the responsibilities, values and academic obligations expected of students of Franco-British International University.
With the successful conduct of its maiden matriculation ceremony, FBIU has taken another significant step in its growth and development, while laying the foundation for the academic and professional aspirations of its pioneer students.
