How We Killed Ogun Broadcaster, Security Guard Over Salary – Suspects Confess

    By Gbenga MukhtarJune 25, 2026
    Ogun Suspects

THREE suspects arrested in connection with the murder of former Ogun State Television (OGTV) broadcaster, Ms. Olakitan Oyesiku, and her security guard have allegedly confessed to the crime, narrating how they carried out the deadly attack and claiming that the killing was intended to “teach her a lesson” over grievances relating to poor remuneration.

News Point Nigeria reports that the Ogun State Police Command said the principal suspect confessed during interrogation that he coordinated the attack after becoming dissatisfied with his treatment while working for the deceased and recruited two other suspects to participate in the operation.

The suspects were arrested following intensive intelligence gathering, technical tracking and forensic investigations launched after Oyesiku and her security guard were found murdered at her residence in Owode-Egba, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State.

Parading the suspects at the State Police Headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, said the arrests marked a major breakthrough in the investigation into the double murder.

Oyesiku, a former staff member of Ogun State Television (OGTV), and her security guard were reportedly murdered at her residence in Abeokuta on Saturday.

According to the police commissioner, the victims were discovered dead at Oyesiku’s residence in Owode-Egba. The former broadcaster was found lying in a pool of blood inside her living room, while her security guard was discovered dead inside the security house within the compound.

Ojajuni said the police received a report at Owode-Egba Police Station on June 21, 2026, at about 4 p.m., regarding suspicious circumstances surrounding the residence.

“Preliminary information indicated that the front door of the residence had been partially damaged while the security house within the compound was found locked, prompting immediate police intervention,” he said.

The police commissioner explained that detectives scientifically processed the crime scene and discovered that the deceased’s Lexus RX 330 vehicle was missing from the compound, raising strong suspicions of robbery and murder.

He said the command immediately launched an intensive investigation, combining intelligence gathering and technical tracking operations aimed at identifying the perpetrators and recovering the stolen vehicle.

“Acting on credible intelligence and technical tracking analysis, operatives of the Command successfully traced and recovered the missing Lexus RX 330 vehicle belonging to the deceased on 22nd June, 2026.

“Although the ignition key had been removed and the registration number plates detached from the vehicle, detectives recovered the vehicle’s registration plate concealed underneath one of the seats, which enabled investigators to positively identify and confirm the vehicle as the property of Madam Olakitan Oyesiku,” Ojajuni said.

The commissioner further disclosed that investigators recovered a handwritten note allegedly left behind by the perpetrators at the crime scene. The note was subjected to forensic examination and analysis, which generated valuable investigative leads that ultimately helped detectives identify and trace the suspects.

According to him, further intelligence gathering led to the arrest of the principal suspect, 22-year-old Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, on June 24, 2026, at a construction site in Ibara GRA, Abeokuta, where he was working as a labourer.

Subsequent operations led to the arrest of 27-year-old Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, a security guard, and 36-year-old Sobu Obafunsho, a bricklayer, bringing all identified suspects allegedly linked to the murder conspiracy into police custody.

“During interrogation, Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip made a confessional statement, admitting his involvement in the murder of Madam Olakitan Oyesiku. He further disclosed that he had recruited Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, aged 27 years, and Sobu Obafunsho, aged 36 years, to participate in the crime,” Ojajuni stated.

The police commissioner said the principal suspect allegedly planned and coordinated the attack because of grievances he harboured against the deceased while working as a security guard in her employment.

“Because of her low salary, and demanding money from the deceased from time to time, the suspect stated that the murder of Madam Olakitan Oyesiku and her security guard was intended to ‘teach her a lesson,’” Ojajuni said.

Police investigations indicated that the suspects allegedly carried out the attack on Saturday, June 20, 2026, after first overpowering the security guard, Pelumi Adetayo, 38, and using him to gain access to Oyesiku’s residence, where they subsequently attacked the broadcaster.

“After committing the crime, the suspects fled the scene with the deceased’s Lexus RX 330 vehicle, which was later recovered through intelligence-led and technical tracking operations at the Onikolobo area of Ogun State,” the commissioner added.

Police further alleged that the criminal conspiracy involving Philip, Ayoola and Obafunsho directly resulted in the deaths of Oyesiku and her security guard, Adetayo.

Following the suspects’ confessional statements, detectives conducted additional searches at locations linked to them and recovered several exhibits believed to be connected to the crime.

“Following the suspects’ confessional statements, detectives conducted further searches at locations linked to them. During the operation, a broken hammer, a cutlass, a plank, a black pen, and other relevant exhibits connected to the investigation were recovered,” Ojajuni said.

The commissioner stressed that despite the confessional statements and evidence already recovered, the suspects remain entitled to due process under the law.

“The Ogun State Police Command wishes to emphasise that while the suspects have made useful statements and substantial evidence has been recovered in the course of the investigation, all suspects remain entitled to due process under the law.

“Investigation is ongoing to consolidate all available evidence and ensure diligent prosecution of all suspects connected with the crime.

“The Command remains committed to ensuring that justice is served and that all persons connected with this heinous crime are brought to book,” the CP added.
