PRESIDENT Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Mr Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as Minister of Power, subject to confirmation by the Senate.
The nomination was contained in a statement sent to News Point Nigeria on Thursday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the statement, the nomination has already been transmitted to the Senate for screening and confirmation in line with constitutional provisions.
The nomination follows the resignation of the former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down from office to pursue elective office.
Mr Tegbe, an indigene of Oyo State, is described as a fiscal and economic reform expert with more than 35 years of experience spanning both the public and private sectors.
He previously served as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he reportedly led several initiatives focused on fiscal policy reform, institutional transformation and governance.
The statement added that Tegbe had also advised major government institutions and private sector organisations on strategic reforms, regulatory frameworks and investment structuring.
He is currently serving as the Director General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership (NCSP), where he is responsible for strengthening bilateral development cooperation between Nigeria and the People’s Republic of China.
According to the Presidency, the NCSP coordinates engagements with public sector stakeholders aimed at advancing economic and social development in line with the objectives of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).
The statement further noted that Tegbe possesses considerable experience within the power sector, particularly in regulatory and institutional reforms involving agencies such as the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company (NBET).
The Presidency expressed confidence that his nomination would further strengthen ongoing efforts to reform the power sector, improve grid stability and attract sustainable investment in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda.
President Tinubu also expressed the expectation that the minister-designate, upon confirmation by the Senate, would deploy his extensive expertise to advance critical reforms and deliver improved outcomes for Nigerians in the power sector.
