THE Kano State Private and Voluntary Institutions Board (KSPVIB) has temporarily shut nine private schools for failing to comply with registration revalidation and recertification requirements, as part of efforts to strengthen regulatory oversight and enforce educational standards across the state.

News Point Nigeria reports that the board’s Executive Secretary, Comrade Baba Abubakar Umar, disclosed this during a media parley in Kano, stating that the affected schools would remain closed for seven days beginning October 12, 2026.

The affected institutions are Zayyad Academy, Success International Schools, Sunshine International School, Perfect Schools, Al-Fa’iq International College, Mainasara International School, Shubla Academy, Darul Mu’uminat Comprehensive School and Hanan International School.

Umar disclosed that the board had identified 111 schools allegedly bypassing established regulatory procedures, warning that any institution that reopened without authorisation would face legal action.

He explained that the exercise was aimed at strengthening regulation and ensuring compliance with established educational standards, stressing the need for private institutions to operate within the framework of the state’s regulatory requirements.

The executive secretary also warned school proprietors against increasing school fees without approval, compelling parents to purchase uniforms and books exclusively from their schools, and expelling pupils without informing their parents.

He further urged private school operators to renew their operating licences for the 2026/2027 academic session, noting that previously issued certificates expired on July 31, 2026.

Umar’s remarks underscored the board’s determination to ensure that private schools comply with registration and recertification requirements while adhering to approved operational standards and protecting the interests of parents and pupils.
