GOVERNORS Agbu Kefas in Taraba State, Umaru Bago in Niger State, and Umo Eno in Akwa Ibom State have emerged as governorship candidates of the All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2027 elections.
News Point Nigeria reports that in Niger State, Governor Umaru Bago secured the APC gubernatorial ticket for a second term through affirmation during an event held at the APC Secretariat in Minna, the state capital.
The governor emerged unopposed after APC card-carrying members from all 277 wards across the state unanimously endorsed him as the sole candidate for the 2027 governorship election in the state.
Chairman of the APC Primary Election Committee, Danladi Mohammed, said the committee was mandated by the party’s national headquarters to conduct the governorship primary in Niger State and subsequently affirmed Governor Bago through consensus.
During the exercise, Mohammed Musa moved a motion for the adoption of Governor Umaru Bago as the consensus and sole candidate for the APC governorship election in 2027 after meeting the party’s constitutional requirements.
The motion was seconded by Deputy Speaker and House of Assembly member, Afiniki Dauda, representing Gurara, leading to the governor’s affirmation.
The party also affirmed 27 state assembly representative candidates for the 25 local government councils in Niger State. According to the APC Primary Election Committee chairman, four councils produced candidates through direct primaries, while 23 emerged through consensus.
In his acceptance speech, Governor Bago thanked the people of Niger State for the opportunity to serve and assured residents of his commitment to deliver more dividends of democracy across the state.
According to him, the affirmation reflected the bond between him and the people as well as their love for the APC, adding that such support would not be taken for granted.
Meanwhile, in Taraba State, Governor Agbu Kefas expressed confidence in emerging victorious in the APC governorship primary election regardless of the number of contenders participating in the race.
Governor Kefas stated this shortly after participating in the governorship primary election at Hospital Ward, Nuru Islam Primary and Secondary School in Wukari Local Government Area of the state.
In Akwa Ibom State, Governor Umo Eno expressed appreciation to APC members and supporters following his emergence as the party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 general elections.
Governor Eno spoke shortly after participating in the APC governorship primary election at Mbiakpan Obot Ward Two in Nsit Ubium Local Government Area.
He described his nomination as a renewed mandate to continue serving the people of Akwa Ibom State with greater commitment and dedication.
The governor also disclosed that his administration would soon establish a committee to assess the performance of his first term and prepare a second-term development blueprint tagged “ARISE 2.0” ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to him, the proposed framework would consolidate on achievements already recorded under the ARISE Agenda while outlining strategic priorities for the next phase of governance if re-elected.
Eno further renewed his appeal for peaceful political campaigns in the state, urging political parties and candidates to focus on issues, policies, and development programmes instead of personal attacks and divisive rhetoric.
He stressed that the electoral process should be conducted in an atmosphere of peace, tolerance, and mutual respect, noting that the collective interest of Akwa Ibom State must take precedence over political disagreements.
The governor also declared his readiness to participate in political debates ahead of the 2027 elections, saying such engagements would provide candidates with opportunities to present their programmes and vision to the electorate.
