NPFL: Shooting Stars Beat Rivals Remo, Kano Pillars Lose Again

FORMER Heartland striker, Christian Pyagbara, scored a brace as Shooting Stars secured a 2-0 win over Southwest rivals Remo Stars and also got their first-ever win over the Ikenne side in the Nigeria Premier Football League on Sunday in Ibadan.

Pyagbara, who joined 3SC before the start of the season, opened the scoring in the 15th minute before adding the second in the second half with 12 minutes left to play – marking a third consecutive win and four in five matches for Gbenga Ogunbote’s side.

Remo Stars striker, Sikiru Alimi, was sent off for a second bookable offence against his former club, and will now sit out of the team’s next game away at Gombe United.

3SC’s recent resurgence has seen them climb back to sixth in the table with 40 points after 26 matches and two points behind Remo who have watched their fortunes dwindle no thanks to just two wins and three defeats in their last five matches.

Meanwhile, Enugu Rangers beat leaders Lobi Stars 2-1 in Enugu to move into second place and one point behind the Makurdi side who hold on to their place at the summit with 46 points.

Enyimba scored three second-half goals and also conceded one within the same period in their 3-1 win over Niger Tornadoes which moved the champions back into third position and level on points with second-place Rangers.

In Yenagoa, Elvis Ori scored at the death to give Bayelsa United a 2-1 win over Kano Pillars and consequently move the Restoration Boys out of the relegation zone as they sit 15th and one point above the drop zone.

Kwara United meanwhile find themselves in the unwanted zone after falling to a 2-1 defeat against Sporting Lagos at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos.
