SEVEN passengers have been killed while two others sustained injuries in a multiple road traffic crash on the Ibafo section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State.
News Point Nigeria reports that the fatal crash occurred at about 12:03am on Monday, August 24, 2026, along the Ibafo-Lagos corridor at Kara, Ibafo, involving three vehicles.
The Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the incident in a statement issued in Abeokuta by the Chief Superintendent Route Commander of the state sector, Afolabi Odunsin.
According to Odunsin, the vehicles involved in the crash were a white HOWO CNG/CIMC ENRIC, a white MACK trailer and a Mitsubishi Canter.
“The Federal Road Safety Corps Ogun State Sector Command, has confirmed a fatal multiple road traffic crash that occurred at about 0003hrs on Monday, 24 August 2026, along the Ibafo–Lagos corridor at Kara, Ibafo. Preliminary information indicates that nine persons, all male, were involved in the crash. Sadly, seven persons were killed, while two persons sustained injuries.”
Odunsin said the FRSC Ibafo Outpost Command received the report of the crash at about 4:04am and arrived at the scene at 4:09am, representing a response time of approximately five minutes.
He said the crash was classified as a fatal multiple road traffic crash, with speed violation (SPV) identified as the probable cause, subject to further investigation.

The FRSC official added that the deceased victims were evacuated from the scene by the Ogun State Ambulance Service, while the injured victims were taken away for medical attention.
The crashed vehicles were subsequently handed over to the Motor Traffic Division of the Nigeria Police Force, Ibafo, for further necessary action.
The Sector Commander, Oludare Ogunjobi, urged motorists, particularly drivers of articulated vehicles, to avoid excessive speed, maintain safe following distances and remain vigilant at all times.
Ogunjobi also advised motorists to exercise extra caution when driving at night, noting that reduced visibility and fatigue could increase the risk of road traffic crashes.
While commiserating with the families of the deceased, the Sector Commander wished the injured victims a speedy recovery.
