Shettima In Closed-Door Meeting With Dangote, Elumelu, Others At Presidential Villa

VICE-PRESIDENT Kashim Shettima is meeting with members of the private sector including the Chairman of the Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, and the founder of the Tony Elumelu Foundation, Mr Tony Elumelu.

The meeting is being held behind closed doors with the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Dr Muhammad Ali Pate in attendance.

A source in the Villa told News Point Nigeria that the meeting is in connection with the recent state of emergency declared on the health sector by the federal govenrment.

“As you know, the federal government recently declared state of emergency on the health sector, this meeting is geared towards rescuing the sector in collaboration with the private sector as well as the development partners”, the source who pleaded anonymity stated.

Others present are international development partners, including the Country Director of the World Bank, Schubham Chaudhuri among others.

Recall News Point Nigeria had reported that Federal Government had declared a state of emergency in Nigeria’s health sector on Thursday.

Which was being highlighted as stakeholders across the sector converge in Ekiti State for the 64th National Council on Health where salient issues around the health sector were discussed.

The opening ceremony was an avenue to set the tone around the theme which focuses on building resilience and an inclusive healthcare system for a healthy Nigeria.

At the event, the Coordinating Minister for Health, Pate said the nation’s health facilities are in bad shape, adding that there is a need for an urgent intervention.
