PRESIDENT Bola Tinubu has assured that he will implement recommendations of the upcoming national youth conference that will enhance national development, his Senior Special Adviser on Citizenship and Leadership, Rinsola Abiola, has said.
Abiola, who was a guest on Channels Television’s breakfast programme, The Morning Brief monitored by News Point Nigeria on Friday, said President Tinubu convoked the conference to give the youth opportunity to contribute to governance of the nation.
She said, “This is the very first time in our history that we’re having a conference specifically dedicated to young people. So, this time around it is to have young people come together to influence the process of nation building, national development. What do we as young people want to see?
“If you’re on social media if you watch TV often which I’m sure you do considering where you work and you listen to commentary on social issues and politics you definitely must have noticed that young people usually have so much to say, lots of recommendations to make about how they think governance should be done, how administration should be done, what they think is wrong with the country, what they think we need to do to fix the country.
“So, this is the renewed hope administration led by President Bola Tinubu saying let the young people come together and then put all of these recommendations together and the president has given his word that any recommendations made as a result of these deliberations that has to do with national development, that will move us closer to our goal of building the country of our dreams, these are recommendations that will be implemented.”
Tinubu had in his nationwide broadcast on October 1 said he would set up a 30-Day National Youth Confab for youths in the country to discuss and address challenges confronting them.
On Monday, the President inaugurated the Planning Committee for the National Youth Conference at the State House, Abuja.
At the event, he assured that the ongoing economic reforms were designed to strengthen the economy for the prosperity of Nigerian youths, who constitute more than 60 per cent of the population.
A member of the committee, Samson Itodo, said the president’s convening of the conference will be a major milestone in involving youths in the country’s development.
Itodo listed some of the areas of priority, including political governance, economic transformation, skills for the future, such as Artificial Intelligence, climate change and energy transition, and social cohesion and security.
He said the framework will include virtual consultations, calls for memoranda, regional town hall meetings and the Abuja conference.
