TROOPS have foiled an attempted infiltration of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Kuru, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.
News Point Nigeria reports that the incident occurred at about 1:30 a.m. on Monday when troops, working alongside other security agencies guarding the institute, detected the movement of unidentified gunmen around the facility.
According to military sources, security personnel responded swiftly, forcing the suspected gunmen to flee into a nearby thick shrub before they could gain access to the institute.
“The troops immediately conducted a search of the surrounding area where the suspects were last sighted, but no contact was established as the suspects had escaped,” the sources said.
The sources further added that security has since been reinforced around the facility, while surveillance and area domination patrols have been intensified to prevent any further attempt to breach the premises.
The area, according to the source, remains under close monitoring as security agencies continue efforts to identify and apprehend those behind the attempted infiltration.
The incident comes about two weeks after three security operatives were killed during an attack on the institute by unknown gunmen.
Spokesperson of the Plateau State Police Command, Alfred Alabo, said the earlier attack occurred in the early hours of June 16.
Reports indicated that two soldiers and a police officer were killed during that attack, although the police command did not disclose the identities of the victims.
Following the incident, the command confirmed that security reinforcements were deployed and patrols intensified around the area on the directive of the Commissioner of Police in the state, Bassey Ewah.
