PRESIDENT Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of 26 individuals into the governing boards and leadership of 10 federal government agencies and commissions, with former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, emerging as Chairman of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), while Major General Junaid Bindawa was named Chairman of the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission.
News Point Nigeria reports that the appointments, which take immediate effect, span strategic agencies in the power, population, fiscal responsibility, housing, education and energy sectors as part of efforts to strengthen governance and improve service delivery across key institutions.
The appointments were announced on Monday in a statement signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, who said President Tinubu had approved the new appointments with immediate effect.
Fayose will chair the board of the Rural Electrification Agency alongside Alhaji Ahmadu Abubakar and Engineer Ilyasu Ibrahim Makinta, who were appointed as members and non-executive directors. The board also comprises the agency’s Director-General, Abba Abubakar Aliyu, and three serving executive directors.
The President also reconstituted the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, appointing Major General Junaid Bindawa as chairman. Former member of the House of Representatives, Olajumoke Okoya-Thomas, was named Secretary of the Commission.
Other appointments to the commission include Dr Ogbole Ene Lilian representing Benue State, Oladele Olatubosun representing Oyo State and Yakubu Umar Barde representing Kaduna State as commissioners. Also appointed as members are Dr Mai Adamu Yau (Borno), Ginika Florence Tor (Enugu), Engineer Lawrence Okoh (Edo) and Bello Morenike Iyabode (Kogi).
In another development, Tosin Johnson Adeyanju, who previously served as Executive Secretary of the National Lottery Trust Fund (NLTF), was redeployed as Secretary of the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission.
President Tinubu also appointed Dr Abuh Mohammed as Director-General of the National Population Commission, Dr Akinola Odeyemi as Managing Director of the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading (NBET), and Dr Anthony Inalegwu Godwin as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission.
Engineer Julius Oloro was named Chief Executive Officer of the National Centre for Agricultural Mechanisation (NCAM) in Kwara State, succeeding Dr A.R. Kamal, who passed away in January.
The President further constituted the board of the Fiscal Responsibility Commission with Dr Abdullahi Maikano Saidu as Chairman. Other members of the board are Mohammed Asmau, Mohammed Aliyu Makama, Dr Suleiman Gidado, Louis O. Ndukwe, Amaechi Ugwele and Olaniyi Idowu Onikola.
Shuni Muhammad Dahiru was appointed Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education, replacing Professor Shu’aibu Shehu Aliyu, who was reassigned to the Petroleum Trust Development Fund (PTDF) in April.
To fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Mathias Byuan, former Executive Director (Finance) of the Federal Housing Authority, President Tinubu appointed Gisaor Vincent Iorja as the new Executive Director. Iorja is an economist, legal scholar and academic who currently serves as Secretary of the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC).
According to the Presidency, all the appointments take effect immediately.
