THE United Nations Association of Africa (UNAA) says it is proud to announce the First Africa Peace and Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Dinner in recognition of the contributions of leading Africans to peace and the realisation of the sustainable development goals of the United Nations. The event is billed to hold in Abuja on Saturday 7th December 2024 at Frazer Suites, Central Area, Abuja.
A statement signed by the Chairman Board of Directors of the association Amb. Emmanuel Nkweke said the momentous event will bring together leaders, peace advocates, and stakeholders committed to fostering peace and advancing sustainable development across the African continent.
The dinner will celebrate the significant achievements and contributions made by various individuals and organizations towards the attainment of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, which aim to create a more equitable, prosperous, and peaceful world by 2030.
The statement said In addition to honoring the remarkable efforts of peace champions, the event will also mark the appointment of Her Excellency Mrs. Bianca Ojukwu as the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
“Mrs. Ojukwu’s appointment is a testament to her unwavering commitment to diplomacy, development, and the promotion of peace within Nigeria and beyond. Her leadership is expected to inspire further advancements in foreign relations and peace initiatives across the continent” the statement added.
Aside the newly appointed Minister of State Foreign Affairs, the association will also celebrate the contributions of various Nigerians to peace including Chief Emeka Anyaoku first Nigerian to be appointed Secretary General of the Commonwealth of Nations.
Others are Bishop Matthew Kukah, Alhaji Sulu Gambari former Nigerian Permanent representative to the United Nations. Others to be recognized include the Indian High Commissioner to Nigeria His Excellency Shari Balasubramanian, Amb. Attia Nasreddin Cavalier from Egypt and Steplyne Nyeboga a recipient of the United Nations military gender advicate award 2021, among others.
Amb. Nkweke said the evening promises to be a gathering of influential figures, including diplomats, political leaders, civil society organizations, and business executives, all united by the shared vision of a peaceful and sustainable Africa. He said the attendees will enjoy an evening of festivities, networking, and inspiring discussions focused on scaling up peacebuilding efforts and achieving the SDGs in Africa.
The statement added that Amb. John Metchie who is the President of the General Assembly of the association, invites all supporters and advocates for peace and development to join this extraordinary celebration stressing that he has made his commitments to ensure that together, all Africans can make strides toward a brighter future for the continent.
