OSUN State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has confirmed that he is in the United States to attend the wedding of his nephew and global music star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido.
This clarification comes in response to accusations by the All Progressives Congress (APC), which had criticised the governor’s two-week absence from the state, alleging that his unexplained departure was part of a failed defection plan and lacked transparency.
In a statement issued by Chief Kola Olabisi, the APC’s Director of Media and Information, the opposition said the governor’s absence raised “serious questions” about his commitment to governance, noting that the people of Osun deserve to know the whereabouts of their chief executive.
Olabisi also recalled a similar episode earlier in Adeleke’s administration, when the governor was out of public view for weeks, amid conflicting reports on his location, which were later confirmed to be for medical treatment in Thailand.
“The state is not a private company that can be managed in secrecy,” Olabisi said, accusing Adeleke of sneaking out without formally informing the people.
But Adeleke’s spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, dismissed the claims, confirming that the governor had travelled aboard the family’s private jet a few days ago to attend the high-profile wedding in the U.S.
He described the trip as a brief private visit and extended a tongue-in-cheek invitation to the APC to attend the ceremony.
“APC is invited to the wedding of David Adeleke (Davido) in the United States, which Governor Ademola Adeleke is attending for a few days,” Rasheed stated.
“His Excellency is extending an invitation to the opposition party to attend the event and share in the joy of the occasion with the Adeleke family. Those unable to attend may join virtually,” he added.
Rasheed also stressed that since assuming office in November 2022, Adeleke had not taken any official vacation, and had chosen to make this a short break to ensure he remains responsive to state matters.
