THE Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared Ufoma Joseph Immanuel, the managing director and chief executive officer of Chappal Energies, wanted over allegations of obtaining money by false pretence and forgery.
The anti-graft agency made the announcement in a public notice sighted by News Point Nigeria late on Wednesday, calling on Nigerians to assist with credible information that could lead to his arrest.
According to the EFCC, Immanuel, 46, hails from Edo State and was last known to reside at 77 Nelson Mandela Street, Maitama, Abuja, before allegedly fleeing to evade arrest.
“The public is hereby notified that UFOMA JOSEPH IMMANUEL, whose photograph appears above, is wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in an alleged case of obtaining money by false pretence and forgery,” the notice read.
The Commission urged anyone with useful information regarding his whereabouts to immediately contact any of its offices nationwide. These include commands in Ibadan, Uyo, Sokoto, Maiduguri, Benin, Makurdi, Kaduna, Ilorin, Enugu, Kano, Lagos, Gombe, Port Harcourt, and the headquarters in Abuja.
Tip-offs may also be sent through the EFCC hotline 0809 332 2644 or via email at info@efcc.gov.ng
Immanuel was appointed managing director of Chappal Petroleum Development Company (Chappal) in January 2021. Chappal Energies is associated with major upstream and midstream operations within Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
The EFCC did not disclose further details about the alleged transactions, the victims, or the amounts involved, but stated that investigations were ongoing and that Immanuel’s immediate arrest was crucial to concluding the case.
The Commission appealed to Nigerians to support its efforts in tackling financial crimes by volunteering information that could help track and apprehend the suspect.
The declaration marks another high-profile inclusion on the EFCC’s wanted list as the agency continues its aggressive push against economic and financial crimes across the country.
