As G5 Return, Wike Denies Any Deal With Tinubu, Says Atiku Wooing APC Govs

THE Governor of Rivers state, Nyesom Wike, had denied having any deal with Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

    RAMADAN KAREEM

Wike, on his arrival with other G5 governors in Port Harcourt, the Rivers state capital, asked the media to present the evidence that he held a meeting with Tinubu, carriers of the news to present evidence of his alleged interview with the BBC.

The governor also alleged that Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had been having meetings with some APC governors, but the Nigeria media had refused to publish that.

He said he and his colleagues are aware of the meeting between Atiku and some APC governors in Dubai, accusing the media of being biased. Wike maintained that he will not hide it if he made any agreement with any presidential candidate ahead of the 2023 election.

The G5 governors travelled to London in the United Kingdom on Wednesday, December 28, on what could be described as a strategic meeting. There has been uncertainty about the preferred presidential candidate of the aggrieved PDP governors in the 2023 election.

PDP Expulsion Of G5 Govs Will Cost Party After Victory – Expert

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had earlier said, the expulsion of the G5 governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would not in any way adversely affect their candidacy at the 2023 general elections as reported by News Point Nigeria.

Reacting to the story, an electoral expert has come out to say, that is not entirely true.

“What INEC is not telling you is what could become of the PDP should they win. The party has no intention of substituting candidates, however should the G5 Governors be expelled and they win their elective seats, opposition candidates can challenge their expulsion that the PDP has declared their seats vacants before election. A party must sponsor a candidate, that is the constitutional provision”, the expert explained.

We Will Win Without Them – Okowa

Meanwhile, Vice Presidential of the PDP and Governor of Delta, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, said God would determine Nigeria’s next President and not the action of G5 governors.

Okowa stated this on Friday in Aboh when he led Delta State PDP campaign train to Ndokwa East and Ndokwa West Local Government Areas of the state.

He, however, expressed confidence that the five governors would put the past behind them and work for the victory of PDP in the 2023 general elections.

“The real truth is that I have strong political eyes and I have observed that no matter what they do, PDP will win the forthcoming election, by the grace of God.

“It is only the power of God that can help us to win. So, no matter that the G-5 said that they would work with APC or any other party, we will win.

“The APC has finished Nigeria. They promised change in 2015 but they have destroyed our dear country with insecurity, hunger and poverty.

“To solve the insecurity challenge, we will amend the Constitution to allow State Police.

“The Atiku-Okowa presidency will restructure Nigeria by allowing states to have more funds and more responsibilities to better the lots of Nigerians.”
