THE Gombe State University (GSU) chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has urged the Gombe State Government to immediately settle outstanding entitlements owed its members to avert possible academic unrest in the institution.
In a statement sent to News Point Nigeria by the Chairman of ASUU in the university, Dr Mustapha S. Shehu, the union listed several outstanding payments being demanded by its members.
According to him, the demands include payment of the 2021–2024 backlog of Earned Academic Allowance (EAA), arrears of the 25 per cent and 35 per cent wage award, the N70,000 minimum wage, arrears of the N30,000 minimum wage, as well as the full implementation of the 2025 Federal Government/ASUU agreement.
Dr Shehu lamented that repeated efforts by the leadership of the union to get the state government to settle the outstanding entitlements had yielded no result.
“Consequently, the Congress resolved that the state government should settle all the outstanding entitlements with immediate effect. Also, the congress may consider other options if the government fails to address these issues,” he said.
The ASUU chairman further disclosed that the union was also demanding the implementation of enhanced postgraduate supervision allowance, enhanced teaching practice allowance, industrial training and field trip allowances, as well as enhanced responsibility allowances.
He appealed to stakeholders, parents and guardians to intervene by advising the state government to urgently address the issues and settle the outstanding entitlements owed members of the union.
