THE Federal Government has reassured Nigerians that ongoing economic reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidy, foreign exchange adjustments, and fiscal restructuring, are designed to deliver long-term benefits for all citizens.
News Point Nigeria reports that the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, gave the assurance on Friday in Lagos while receiving an award, emphasising the government’s commitment to policies aimed at repositioning the nation’s economy for sustainable growth.
Idris, who was honoured with the ‘Image Maker Award 2026’ at the event, reaffirmed his dedication to maintaining the highest standards of public communication, rooted in truth, transparency, and accountability. This was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday by his Special Assistant (Media), Rabiu Ibrahim.
The minister noted that the recognition comes at a critical period for Nigeria, characterised by bold policy reforms and renewed efforts to strengthen the country’s economic foundation.
“This award is a testament to the trust we strive to build with every Nigerian. Communication is at the heart of governance, and it must foster confidence, unity, and hope,” Idris said, adding that effective communication must go beyond information dissemination to actively build trust among citizens.
He stressed the importance of transparency and sustained engagement with both the public and the media, noting that open dialogue has played a crucial role in narrowing the gap between government actions and public perception.
Idris also underscored the significance of timely and accurate information, particularly in matters of national security, revealing that the ministry continues to work closely with security agencies and media organisations to maintain public calm and reinforce confidence in government efforts.
In addition, the minister acknowledged the critical contributions of the media, his colleagues in government, and the staff of the Ministry of Information and National Orientation in strengthening Nigeria’s communication architecture.
“As we navigate major policy shifts including the removal of fuel subsidies, foreign exchange reforms, and fiscal restructuring our approach has centered on clarity, consistency, and credibility. We are committed to ensuring that government decisions are communicated with empathy and responsibility, always highlighting their long-term benefits for all Nigerians,” he said.
He further reaffirmed his commitment to “upholding the highest standards of public communication, anchored on truth, transparency, and accountability,” describing the award not as a destination but as a renewed call to greater service.
The Vanguard Media Limited award ceremony was attended by several prominent Nigerians, including Peter Mbah, Agbu Kefas, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo and Matthew Hassan Kukah, among others.
