THE President of MAAUN Group of Universities, Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, has described the death of former Voice of America correspondent and ace journalist, Saleh Shehu Ashaka, as a monumental loss not only to the media industry but to the nation at large.
Professor Gwarzo said the late Ashaka lived a life of impact and service, dedicating his career to upholding the ethics and professionalism of journalism. According to him, the deceased was a committed journalist whose work earned him widespread respect across Nigeria and beyond.
“Saleh was not just an outstanding journalist but also a philanthropist who touched many lives. His generosity to colleagues and the overwhelming outpouring of tributes across the country speak volumes about his character as a kind, humble, and benevolent person,” he said.
Gwarzo further recalled that Ashaka was one of the finest correspondents produced by Voice of America, admired for his calm and peaceful voice, as well as his balanced reporting style, which endeared him to listeners over the years.
He added that the late journalist’s passing has created a vacuum that would be difficult to fill, especially at a time when the media industry needs experienced and principled voices.
The MAAUN president extended his heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and professional colleagues of the deceased, praying to Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings, grant him Aljannatul Firdaus, and give those he left behind the strength to bear the loss.
