OPERATIVES of the Borno State Police Command on Tuesday detonated an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) concealed in a backpack recovered at Layin Logo in the Moduganari area of Maiduguri, Borno State.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahim Daso, disclosed this in a statement sent to News Point Nigeria on Tuesday, explaining that the suspicious bag was discovered at about 9:00 a.m. during a routine surveillance and foot patrol operation.
“On 5th May, 2026, at about 0900hrs, during routine surveillance and foot patrol, operatives of the Borno State Police Command recovered a suspicious bag abandoned at Layin Logo, Moduganari area of Maiduguri,” the statement read.
According to Daso, the Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit Base 13 was immediately mobilised to the scene after the discovery.
“The Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit Base 13 was immediately deployed to the scene, where an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) concealed in the bag was identified and safely detonated in line with standard operating procedures,” he added.
The police spokesperson called on residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons, movements, or objects to the nearest police station.
Daso further stated that investigations into the incident were ongoing and assured that more details would be made available in due course.
The latest development comes months after a similar operation by the police in Maiduguri.
In December 2025, this newspaper reported that operatives of the Borno State Police Command defused an unexploded ordnance planted beneath a network mast at Chuskon, Federal Low Cost Area of Maiduguri.
At the time, a statement issued by ASP Nahum Daso disclosed that the EOD-CBRN Base 13 team carried out the recovery following a report received by the Divisional Police Officer of the ITE Police Division.
